DJI O4 - Worth the upgrade? How does it look with SCENIC DIVES?

In case you haven't seen enough comparison videos - here is my honest take on the new DJI DIY drone video link.

It's a nice step up and again makes O3 footage look old now

Flew with Chimera7 (O3) and Aura7 (O4) copters up to my nicely accessible snowy mountain top "RAX" for some example dives

Googles 3 & O3 fixed? Lets test with a scary longrange dive...

If you got the Goggles 3 earlier this year when they announced O3 compatibility, you've been in the same situation (or worse). Either you were grounded because of the issues - or you lost your drone somwhere up there... Since their official "G3 O3 fix" firmware was out I trusted all the brave men who tested this and wasn't dissapointed. Range is good (even with stock antennas), image perfect, fit for my flat face - really nice, and finally I have goggles DVR files with baked in telemetry (no more work - I've done so much different things to embed overlay myself in the past...)

Goggles 3 and O3 Airunit - DJI get your **** together!

Got my DJI Goggles 3 finally to find them UNUSABLE with DJI O3. I know, MadsTech warned about this - but I was hoping for this issue to be fixed within a month. Still hope they can fix this since it sounds quite easy to change a few lines of code to allow the re-connection on armed drones...

my findings until 25.9.2024:

Goggles 3 Firmware 1.0.400 (most current as of 24.9.24) O3 Airunit Firmware: 1.03.000 (most current as of 24.9.24) (G3 Bind: longpress power button!) (from DJI Forum thread) To check if you do have a problem, try this: Before powering up the Goggles 3, power up you drone and ARM it (without props please) THEN power up the goggles while the drone is already armed googles will power up and will NOT connect to the drone! ...only after DISARM, they will connect! Same if you are connected, armed the drone on the bench and walk away with goggles - once bitrate is low enough to loose signal, it wont come back if you go back with goggles into range. Disarm the drone and the goggles re-connect! Possible blackscreen Issue Causes: Control Link: nope on bitrate changes? sometimes auto lowpower mode on/off? nope CH manual or auto? nope FCC or CE mode? nope Power connection? DJI O3 Range - DJI stock Linear antennas on your copter vs TrueRC CP antennas

Been testing DJI O3 with stock antennas and better TrueRC Singularity antennas (next pic) to find out how the bitrate will be if flying a bit further out...

In the right chart you see that the bitrate stays really nice in the high 30-40mbit range, where it is more around 20mbit when I was using O3 stock (mixed with TrueRC Xair2 on the DJI goggles v2 - which is an polarization mismatch!).

SO - maybe pairing the DJI goggles2 stock antennas with their stock O3 airunit antennas on the copter will yield better results than my (left) scenario...

But I'm pretty sure that many pilots will have a mixed situation (since we also use Vistas and CP antennas because we don't buy 10 new O3 airunits ;) for alle the quads yet :)

Each flight a pleasure! (Foxeer Aura7, DJI O3)

Whenever I wanted easy FPV fun in the last few months -  I uesd my Aura7. It just works! Sometimes I tested antennas, mostly I wanted to enjoy the really good video downlink (O3). 

Using an ND filter further increases that CINEMA look feeling already while flying!

To get convenience and more flight time - I don't use the Gopro but just the O3 onboard recording (find setup tips below).

Thanks TJay ​@dynashot1 for some excellent chase shots (unfortunatelay the GP11 was in 2.7k100fps - so it doesn't look as sharp as it could - and thus the O3 footy actually looks better than Gopro - which really wasn't my intention ;)

TIP: Make sure to use good circular VTX antennas on your O3 Airunit instead of the original DJI O3 antennas if you use the Goggles v2 (not Goggles2).
