TBS Discovery / GoPro 3 Black / best Antivibration with Gelblock!!! (uncut, raw 1080p60)

Dieser Flug war eigentlich nur als Testflug zwischendurch gedacht. Ausserdem wollte ich nochmal testen, wie gut der GelBlock anstelle der Ohrstöpsel funktioniert. Als ich mir daheim dann das Material angeschaut hab, war ich total begeistert! Obwohl ich hier mit 1080p60 im MEDIUM Fov Modus flog, waren keine Vibrationen mehr zu sehen (und mein Copter ist nicht gut gebalanced!).
Ausserdem ist mir hier auch aufgefallen, wie gut das neue Mic der Gopro3 funktioniert. Man kann tatsächlich die Motoren hören, und nicht nur ein lautes, unnötiges Windrauschen!
Einige haben schon bemerkt, dass ich den Test bei gutem Wetter und Sonnenschein wiederholen muß - hier gibt's eher sichtbare Vibrationen im Video. Ich warte nur noch auf besseres Video - dann werden wir es wissen!


This was just a test but turned out awesome. It's the best quality footage I got so far out of this platform. New Gopro3 does help a lot of course - but mainly the gelblock creates this wobble free video I always tried to get!
Some commenters pointed out that I should repeat my test on a sunny day - here the cams are more likely to show vibration effects (jello). I only wait for better weather now!
Also let me know how you like such uncut, raw vids from time to time.

Video uploaded directly from sd card - only cut start and end here on youtube.
After uploading 1080p60 material with around 35mbit I was wondering what youtube downsizes it to - so I downloaded all the versions available and the highest quality was 1080p30 with 400mb size (5MBit). So the orig GP3 file is way better and really smooth thanks to the 60fps. But it's quite nice what the YT converter makes out of the lousy 5mbit!
Another thing: did you listen to the raw sound here? It's amazing how detailed the motor sounds are recorded compared what older cams did. Back than it was only noise - now you actually hear the differnt pitches of motorspeeds. GoPro3: Great MIC also!

Here I just found a great, forward thinking positive article about the future of "drones". I feard a paranoid article that feeds the many fears from this technology our hobby is combined with. But this is the message that should go out to the sceptics!

Schladming WM 2013

Hatte im Skiurlaub auch den Copter dabei und konnte die Vorbereitungen rund um den morgen startenden Weltcup in Schladming filmen. Der Eurofighter flog deshalb so knapp über die Stadt, weil er bereits für die Eröffnungsfeier geprobt hat.



Last week we spent in Schladming - a nice Ski Resort where next weeks a series of worldcup skirace will take place. For this event they built huge tribunes and many buildings and advertisments in the whole city. I was able to capture some material there.

The FighterJet - Eurofighter Typhoon flew so close over ground because it was an practise flight for the opening ceremonies.

Diesen Flug hab ich für einen Arbeitskollegen gemacht. Er wollte seine Heimatstadt von oben sehen...
Als er Ruinen erwähnte hatte er schon gewonnen. Als ich dann noch sah, dass er einen perfekten Startplatz gleich neben seinem Haus hatte mit lustigen Schafen, war's natürlich genial dort zu fliegen!

Here I was following an invitation of a work colleague. He was curious to see my quad "discovering" his hometown. By the time he mentioned "ruins" he got me ;-)
The nice sheep right next to his house were a funny bonus...

GoPro3 Black Edition - Hands on review, comparision to GP2 and GoPro app walktrough

Die neue GoPro3 Black Edition kann wirklich Einiges! Achtung - beim Upgrade von einer GoPro2 sollte man nicht an der falschen Stelle sparen und die Gopro 3 Silver oder White nehmen - hier sind die Unterschiede dann nicht besonders groß (die Silver entspr. der GoPro2 + dem neuen Gehäuse + WiFi). Also eine GoPro 3 Silver wird nicht viel besser sein als die alte Gopro2!
Es ist schon beeindruckend, wie klein das Ding ist! Die neuen Auflösungen und Modi lassen das Filmer-Herz höher schlagen. Mein momentaner Favorit: 1080p60 (also volles HD in super flüssig). Hier kann man dann noch mit 50% Speed flüssige Zeitlupen machen. Für Zeitlupen ist natürlich noch 848x480 mit 240 Bildern/Sek interssant - hier kann man die Zeit schon auf 10% verlangsamen! Oder alternativ die 720p120 Bilder - also recht gute Auflösung - und mit 120 Bildern kommt man auf 20% runter. Vorteil bei 720p120: hier ist auch die Auswahl "Wide / Medium / Narrow" des Bildausschnittes möglich!
Mehr Erfahrungen mit der Cam gibts dann sobald ich auch damit geflogen bin!



It's amazing what they put into this really tiny little cam! Watch out if you plan to upgrade from Gopro2 to the Gopro3: don't try to save money by just getting the silver edition (or even white). Gopro3 Silver isn't much better than GoPro2! (it's just the new body and Wifi)! I'm impressed by the new options and level of quality GP3BE delivers:

• less weight is always good for FPV
• new resolutions like my new fav: 1080p60 frames (full HD and super smooth 60fps! This lets you slow down to half the speed and still have 30fps)
• Slowmo at 240 Frams (with reduced 848x480 pixels) this lets you capture events ten times slower than normal Speed! Impressive (watch sample down below) or you can choose 720p120 - higher resolution but only 5 times slower than normal. But: 720p120 lets you also choose "Wide/Medium/Narrow" field of view!

Flatz und St. Lorenzen (TBS Discovery medium range - RCSchim)

Hier bin ich auf der Suche nach neuen Flugplätzen in St. Lorenzen stehen geblieben und hab dort das herrliche Tal richtung Flatzer Wand überflogen.

Here my journey to find new fpv spots lead me to St. Lorenzen where I started my copter heading towards the "Flatzer Wand" the rocky formation that looks more spectacular from the ground than from the air ;-)

Frohes Neues Jahr!
Ich hab zu Mitternacht meinen Quadrokopter für Euch riskiert um eine tolle Aussicht auf das Feuerwerk zu bekommen. Es war zwar recht warm für Silvester, aber leider etwas windig. Nachtfliegen mit dem Disco macht Spaß - wenn auch die Orientierung etwas schwerer fällt. Man sollte das aber nur machen, wenn man genug Flugerfahrung hat und das Gebiet gut kennt. Einen Baum sieht man in der Nacht z.B. nicht ;-)

Happy 2013 from RCSchim. I risked my quad this New Years Eve to give you this unique perspective! It was really gusty the Discovery flew great. Orientation is a bit harder than by day but if you know your area it can work. Dont try it if you're not experienced - many things can go wrong here ;-)
