FPV Meet and Crash am Eichberg
Am Freitag waren ein paar FPV Freunde aus der Wiener FPV Connection zu Besuch am Eichberg. Wetter und Location haben gepasst, leider hatten wir viel zu wenig Zeit...
Es ist toll zu sehen, wie andere FPVler ihre Technik zusammengebastelt haben. Richys LCD im Koffer hat z.B. einen tollen Eindruck bei mir hinterlassen. Vor allem, wenn's so heiß ist, dass man unter der Brille schwitzt ist so ein Display toll.

Neuer Flieger: Pitts Special von Hype
Nachdem viele meiner Kollegen zuletzt vom Doppeldecker-Fieber gepackt wurden, konnte auch ich nicht länger "wegschaun". Bereits vor ein paar Monaten war mir im Katalog eine schöne Pitts Special S-1S aufgefallen. Das Angebot ist toll - das Ding kostet fertig 150€ - und da ist alles dabei - fast kein Bauaufwand. Ein paar tolle Tipps gab's noch im aktuellen Foamie Heft - kauft Euch das, wenn ihr Interesse an dem Ding habt!

MIT - Fixed Wing Drone flies in parkhouse
Das Ding schaut aus wie einer unserer normalen RC Schaumwaffeln, hat aber recht nette Hightech an Bord! Vor allem der Flug am Ende des Videos durch die Parkgarage ist genial! Im FPV Modus wäre das wahrscheinlich nicht unfallfrei zu meistern ;-)

TBS Discovery - "Disco ist wieder in!"
Der TBS Discovery ist eine Modifikation basierend auf Naza von DJI. Das Design ist vom Team-Blacksheep und optimal auf FPV angepasst (größere Mittelplatten für mehr Abstand zwischen den heiklen Antennen, bessere Position der GoPro).
Und heute Vormittag war es endlich soweit - ich konnte meinen Disco testen. Die ersten Flüge waren ein voller Erfolg! GPS Addon ist sehr genial. Funktioniert wie's soll, findet recht schnell die notwendigen Satelliten (ca 25sek?). Beim Fliegen ist es dann ein Genuß, wenn man auf GPS Attitude Mode umschaltet. Ohne Stickeingabe bleibt er dann sehr ruhig in der Luft!

Today I could maiden the TBS Disco. First flights went like a charm. Settings were ok (125% on everything). Power is enough on 3cell, vibs with 10x45 stock props are dampened by my earplugs - what could you want more? GPS for example. Lets you park the thing in the air - or better - can give you "return home" on failsafe. GPS gets signal quite fast (25sec).

Tricopter - Autos nachjagen / chasing cars
So - diesmal ein Rock-Klassiker ;-) Hatte das Lied vom Supernatural-Soundtrack mal im Auto gehört und sofort gewusst, dass ich dazu ein paar witzige Tri-Flugszenen schneiden muss. Ich hatte dann einige Triflüge die für sich genommen nix besonderes waren, aber zusammengewürfelt sind sie hoffentlich unterhaltsam.
Ich bin gespannt wie euch der 2te Teil des Videos gefällt ;-)

Starting with a rock classic! Heard the tune in my car and knew instantly it had to be cut together with some crazy Tri-flightscenes. I had many of the lately and hope they are entertaining in this mix. I'm curious what you guys think about part two in this vid :-) Thanks for commenting and giving feedback!

Worlds largest RC Heli / Größter RC-Heli
Update 5/2014 - after 5 Years I finally got tech data from a bigger heli: LAMA Sa 315B with 3,4m:
On the other hand it only has 5cm more main rotor - but 10kg less the weight...
Maybe we can do a video with both on the same airfield and let the camera decide which one is bigger?

Man findet viel Blödsin aber hier gibts eine Forumsdiskussion mit einigen Kandidaten.

Besides some military or professional grade drones I diddn't find a bigger one. See tech specs in my video. One place with some discussion is this forum with a few candidates.

Die bauen doch normalerweise alles nach, nur kleiner - wie sollen die also den größten Heli bauen? ;-)
Jedenfalls gibt's einen Yamaha RMax - aka Yanmar AYH-3. Das ist ein cooler (aber häßlicher) Japanischer Dünger-Heli. Kostet ca. 80.000$! Der ist etwa gleich groß wie Sepps Cobra (je nachdem ob Sepp den größeren Rotor montiert oder nicht...)

FPV Treffen am Eichberg
Gestern hatte ich Besuch von Thomas und Alex. Mit Antennentracker und Autopilot ausgerüstet erkundete er unsere Gegend und brauchte sich wenig Sorgen bei Bild oder Steuerungsaussetzern machen - dann greift bei Failsafe die automatische Heimkehrfunktion des RVOSD Autopiloten (RTH) ein. Das funktioniert so gut, dass er den Autopiloten auch gleich nach dem Start (auf Sicht) verwendet. Der selbst verbesserte Maxi Swift (Baubericht hier) kreist dann 150m über ihm, und er kann in Ruhe die FPV Brille aufsetzen. Gleiche Prozedur hilft ihm dann auch beim Landen wieder. Während des Fluges hilft ihm der Antennentracker dabei, dass seine Richtfunkantenne immer optimal ausgerichtet ist.
Zum Video: leider hatte ich keine onboard Aufnahmen von Thomas, aber ich bin mit meiner Funcub ca die selbe Strecke abgeflogen. Der Auftakt ist unschwer zu erkennen wieder etwas Tricopter Herumheizerei. Macht immer noch Spaß!
Yesterday Tom and Alex came to a little FPV meeting on the Eichberg. Tom uses some nice tech stuff to fly FPV! The RVOSD onboard his professionally improved Maxi Swift (buildlog here) has an nifty Autopilot / RTH function. This way he doesn't care about radio or video glitches. If something happend either failsafes sends back the plane automatically, or he flips a switch to engage RTH. This works so good that he uses autopilot for starting and landing: he starts/lands by sight, ascends to 100m and then the computer takes the plane in circles around home position. This gives him enough time to take on FPV goggles, drink a coffee...
During flight an antenna tracker helps him positioning the directional antenna always in the right direction for optimal video stability and range.
To the vid: sorry - but I had no onboard footage from tom so I used my own captured material from my funcub - I flew approx the same route. Starter was my Tricopter - it's always fun to race around fast and low with it!
