Flew fixedwing FPV for 4 month now - this is what I captured!

I fly FPV since 2008 and it started with a plane back then (MPX Twinstar).

Soon I moved to flying quads - because they are easier to fly, less effected by wind, smaller...

But each year I have my "phase" of wanting to fly with PLANEs. Usually this phase don't last long, since I fall back to the convenience of copters :)

Now with really good options (DJI video transmission, Crossfire controll link and INAV flight controller) this was my longest phase of mostly flying planes!

I've learned a lot with the planes, feel really confident with INAV now. Autolaunch installed on all of the planes - super helpfull! Stability (control surface action against gusts?)  could be better - I guess I need to tune the PIDs there better.

But ACRO mode is so nice! The plane automatically flies straight, without the need for trimming the servos ;)

Each of these planes has some advantages.

+ efficient  (kind of), can carry a gopro (needs lot of nose weight, so without a gopro you need DEADWEIGHT)

- it's a bit unstable and wobbly still. 

- Launches are not always easy (but with INAV and autolaunch it's easy!)

FPV900:  easy, small wing now with INAV and GPS!

+ it's cheap so the risk is lower - more confidence!

+ works nice with 3000mah LiIon   - or 1800mah Lipos for stunts!

- a bit unstable in high speeds

- noisy motor / Prop combo

MARS 1200:    

my biggest, most grown up FPV longrange plane!

+ A LOT of space, good speed and efficiency

+ super video range (also thanks to the TrueRC singularity 12cm antennas )

- Stalls are ugly, landings not always easy

GIANT RC Red Bull Cobra is back - and I got to chase it with my drone!

This was our annual "Sturmfliegen" which translates to "stormflying" because we have more wind in autumn and it's the time where they drink Sturm (some sort of early wine). I got to film and chase a lot of cool RC - including: - the ever impressive RedBull Cobra from Sepp Schmirl (check my Cobra playlist - linked below) - Sebart Avanti XS JET (which is soooo stable and smooth in the air https://bit.ly/3CSjGhY - FPV Wing chase fun with the maidener and his Dolphin (RIP) - a yellow copter which I didn't interview (it was just so chaotic there) - Multiplex Rockstar Biplane (where I could get really close) I used my iFlight Chimera 7 with Gopro10 for the big Cobra and Jet chases, where I almost killed my 4000mah 6S pack while trying to keep up with the jet ;) And the iFlight Titan DC5 to "dance" with that biplane. How do you like the video quality showing the biplane in the air? To fly with the Maidener and his Dolphin I used my new INAV controlled FPV900 wing. Video about this and similar will be up next!

What better place than this for a drone?

Had this spot on my list for long now and this day (late July) was perfect for a session with my chimera 7. Since my Gopro10 was quite new I needed some confidence by scouting with 2 smaller packs there. From my current perspective (fixedwing mania) I'd love to go there again with 2 or 3 FPV plane wingmen and do epic FPV chase session there! Greets, Mario

About stabilization (Gyroflow vs. Insta Studio) check this video: https://youtu.be/oo0w4HuxJeE?t=92 Gyrodata: - ThumbPro seems better than orig. Thumb (~30ms off) - Thumb(normal) is 230-260ms off and no matter the settings it always looks like it's NOT stabilized - Caddx Peanut (InstaGo2) is a charm to stabilize, more wideangle and it's 9-11ms off - looks very steady and smooth. While the low weight is a selling point (especially for the use on ultralight whoops) there's a general problem with lightweight cams: less (own) mass means the cam can be moved / affected easier by vibrations! It's a good idea to mount the lightweigh cam to a heavy, non vibrating mass (the flight battery for example!)

Supposed to be a fun FPV meet at our local flightfield. Turned out to be a lot of fun (but not equally distributed for all pilots ;) Once again I used the TitanDC5 here with the Peanut. Not because it's the best cam I have - but it's good enough for these kinds of videos and it's cheap enough to crash it!

30 sec into the flight something awesome happend!

This is a recent flight (unusual for me to edit my footage so "fresh"). Wanted to test the Caddx Peanut more. Before these flights I had more jello, tried to make a video to show the influence of props - but it was inconsistent. Generally I use 5" copters with new props and ND16 filter on the caddx all the time - that gives the best results. The low weight of the cam is nice, and quality more than sufficient - what do you think? Here I opted NOT to stabilize the peanut footage, because this way I have the full 2880x2880 fisheye raw video - here you can crop and zoom in post and be flexible (to look up or down if neccesary). As I said in the video: this one inconsistency with the power button on the Peanut should be changed: if on it's own battery: power button pressed once means: turn on and rec if on external power: power button once = turn one, another press needed to stat recording

Peanut footage: I decided NOT to use insta-Studio for stabilization but leave it raw, just cropping in the center (from 2800x2800 raw video you can crop 2560x1440 nicely. how I liked CADDX Peanut vs. DJI Action 2 (many sample flights!)

Bought the PEANUT late but now I couldn't resist the low price and my general curiosity for this concept. See for which applications the cam is perfect in this video. Also learn how Gyroflow (for the first time for me) worked better than instaStudio stabilization (settings below).

- Phone-App (Insta360): https://www.insta360.com/de/download/insta360-go2 enable blutooth, wifi - connect to activate the cam: just wait some time - then it will work (do you need to press the button on the cam in this stage as Bardwell suggested? I don't think so - it's rather a timing issue) - Battery limits rec time: 18:28 (VideoPro, 2880x2880, 30fps 15°C) ~ 10GB so the 28gb of internal storage should give us ~ 45mins until the memory is full. you can transfer files via USB with ~35mb/sec to your PC *Important things to setup: - rec Settings: VideoPro - 30fps (recommended if using the ND Filter) - ND Filters (recommended to get nice motionblur on the fast moving ground which leads to lower youtube bitrate consumption for unneccesary fast moving sharp objects) - increase rec time to 30mins - InstaStudio (free PC post processing stabilization): FPV Stabilization, Actionview (wider than "ultrawide") InstaStudio phone app: here you can also apply more filters, do a roll effect... INTERESTING: Gyroflow 1.01 looks much better than InstaStudio! (Lens correction, smoother stabilizer...) - using Gyroflow (1.01) for Caddx Peanut footage: I needed to use GF for one of my videos where one of the gyro axis was rotated by 90°. Settings that worked well: Lens profile: "Insta360 Go2 (use the vid directly from...)" Lowpassfilter: 50Hz FOV: 1,18 default, smoothing 0,379 No Zoom Rolling shutter correction (x) Lens correction effect: 60% (here you can adjust the ammount of distortion... bought these myself on Hobbyking (because they ship fast ;) ZIPPY Compact 4000mAh 6S1P Also quite interesting are the Gaoneng HV LIPOS - their wh/weight ratio is 0,202 (wh/gr) vs 0,212 on your LIION pack. So these HV packs (how ever good they will hold up!) - they seem to be an alternative with more punch (but they are expensive and hardly available). Heatshrink for LiIon 6S (maybe 12cm instead of 13cm works better?)

RC Mini Challenge - 4 DJI Copters chasing 4 RC cars on track (CHAOS!)

One of my FPVer buddies was activley racing those crazy 1:5 Austin Minis back in the days so we were invited to fly there and get nice shots and loads of fun! I had no idea how hard it is to get close to them.

Top speed ~ 85kph, 5hp, 10kg, 2stroke engine The track looks quite small inside the FPV goggles ;) It's still a mystery to me how the crash did 0% harm to both of my cams (DJI Action 2, Insta OneX2). Pure luck that there are no scratches are on the lenses! Most fun was had when we flew with 4 DJI copters and chased 4 of those cars. Rare Bear FPV, meet and crash, 2 FunjetUltra mishaps

In preparation for some FPV fun at spontaneous meetups with my friends I converted my fast reno racer (the F8F Rare Bear from E-flite) to DJI FPV (with a simple backpack which I tested also on my EasyStar). The DJI Backpack is a super easy solution to get almost any plane ready for FPV. What I learned the hard way: the FRSky 2.4Ghz RX in combination with my new TX16S (and it's internal multi module) is not a trustworthy one... (there is a small chance that my ESC's bec locked up - but I don't think so) So from now on I will stick to Crossfire - also for planes and just use a 6ch adapter for the conventional RC stuff (where you don't just connect RX/TX pins to a UART ;)

There's more FPV Plane stuff coming up - been busy with iNav setup on my MiniTalon - will test it more today. Also upcoming: Lipo, LiIon testing for a 7" setup (tested a lot of packs already). These longer projects mean that I get to do less videos - but once they are done I hope they are of more value ;) I stand for HONEST reviews and opinions!
