Insane Formation DIVES, pure FPV fun and PANIC with TX16s Emergency mode!

Here we met on one of my favourite spots. It's a dead end street, not a lot of people passing by, friendly farmers and no one complaining about our flying (even tho we were there the whole day) - great FPV day!

One of the last days of 2024 - and I had so much luck (with my ARWingpro). My friends were not so lucky: one destroyed RCCar (see the spectacular crash in my last short or here in the long form: https://youtu.be/K4gr_OThsE4 one missing Ranger T1, a few broken props, motormounts, ... Even tho it was subzero temps there - the sun warmed us up and besides the high and turbulent winds higher up near the cliffs, the weather was great. For me the star of this video is the MFD plane from Ritchie - it's the "Mothership" and it's been thru a lot as he told me. Fantastic slow flyer - but man - this speedy formation dive is the best I've seen in a long time. Most epic scenes in this video involved his plane ;) only few of the clips here were flown by myself :) Happ 2025, Mario and Crew!

Can you PERCH a Wing? (should you?)

Supposed to be a fun FPV meet at our local flightfield. Turned out to be a lot of fun (but not equally distributed for all pilots ;) Once again I used the TitanDC5 here with the Peanut. Not because it's the best cam I have - but it's good enough for these kinds of videos and it's cheap enough to crash it!

Rare Bear FPV, meet and crash, 2 FunjetUltra mishaps

In preparation for some FPV fun at spontaneous meetups with my friends I converted my fast reno racer (the F8F Rare Bear from E-flite) to DJI FPV (with a simple backpack which I tested also on my EasyStar). The DJI Backpack is a super easy solution to get almost any plane ready for FPV. What I learned the hard way: the FRSky 2.4Ghz RX in combination with my new TX16S (and it's internal multi module) is not a trustworthy one... (there is a small chance that my ESC's bec locked up - but I don't think so) So from now on I will stick to Crossfire - also for planes and just use a 6ch adapter for the conventional RC stuff (where you don't just connect RX/TX pins to a UART ;)

There's more FPV Plane stuff coming up - been busy with iNav setup on my MiniTalon - will test it more today. Also upcoming: Lipo, LiIon testing for a 7" setup (tested a lot of packs already). These longer projects mean that I get to do less videos - but once they are done I hope they are of more value ;) I stand for HONEST reviews and opinions! MiniTalon: from Maidencrash to epic FPV Adventure

Here in this video you'll see my experience over the last 2 weeks:
from maidencrash, luckily I announced it that way before launch so nobody was surprised, to successfull FPV mission!

I got this kit for around 50$ (banggood) LAST YEAR after the flights with my XUAV One  (the one with the folding prop AROUND it's tail-rod). The One was just not a good flyer, gears around this pusher are weak...
Then I read only good things about this easy, proper flying Mini Talon. It's a shame that I didnt build this earlier! Had to put aside my quads a little for this :)

►Main features:
- BIG SPACE for things like Autopilot and FPV equipment
- good speedrange (~35 to 140kph)
- easy build (really easy)
- long flighttimes (you can use 5.000 to 10.000mah 4cells) I get really safe 25mins or 20km travel with around 3.000mah used

►►►Important tips (also seen in video):
- CG is 55mm from leading edge of wing (not 76mm like manual says!)
- throw it horizontally not at an up-angle, give it a nice toss, dont use full throttle (torque left!), check this video guide to see how it's launched
- secure the main battery (it WILL affect your CG if it can "roam around" in your fuselage :)
- create some motor air vents in the back - my motor got really hot (ok it's summer here)

ATTENTION: DO NOT ONLY POWER IT FROM EXTERNAL SOURCE - with small variations in current the cam will reboot, a fat screen will ask for movie recovery - TVOUT is blocked!
With it's battery in I had 4 long flights now without issue - cam is always charged. Maybe I will move on to dedicated FPV cam...

Jet Crash, Lipo Barbecue and Mini Racing

Had some great fun with my miniquad yesterday on the field. And there was some action (another crash, some burning lipo, rescue flight, a few stunts,...).
Please be careful when you handle your lipos. You see in this example how much energy they have and how explosive/flameable they are! Always be safe while charging those lipos also!!!!

Eagle attacks quadcopter in the Dolomites (Cadore,Italy - Black Snapper Down...)

On our roadtrip through the fantastic mountains of the dolomites in north italy (alto adige / south tyrol) I had 2 FPV flights. First was great, perfect conditions - breathtaking scenery - second flight was even better - until I passed an eagles nest (without noticing) and got attacked by two of these majestic birds...
Before I realized what happend the copter was down on a very remote steep rock. No locator, no video (forgot groundstation rec) no chance to find or recover my most valuable flying machine :-(

Winter FPV Meeting

Prometreus und Richy haben mich am Eichberg besucht. Trotz mittelmäßiger Bedingungen (kalt, windig, schlechte Sicht) war's sehr lustig. Die beiden fliegen halt eher action betont - kein wunder dass da auch mal was passieren kann ;-)

Das zweite Video zeigt die Sicht von Prometreus aus - teilweise die selben Szenen - aber gegen Ende tolle Car-Chase FPV Szenen!

Two friends visited me at Eichberg and even with cold windy weather we had much fun up there. They are real stuntmen - so don't try this at home ;-)

FPV Meet and Crash am Eichberg

Am Freitag waren ein paar FPV Freunde aus der Wiener FPV Connection zu Besuch am Eichberg. Wetter und Location haben gepasst, leider hatten wir viel zu wenig Zeit...
Es ist toll zu sehen, wie andere FPVler ihre Technik zusammengebastelt haben. Richys LCD im Koffer hat z.B. einen tollen Eindruck bei mir hinterlassen. Vor allem, wenn's so heiß ist, dass man unter der Brille schwitzt ist so ein Display toll.



This was a great fpv meeting with FPV friends from Vienna! Its great to meet other fpvers and see how they are equipped. For example I'm quite envious about Richys Display!

Leider wollte auch der zweite Flug von Schwegel heute nicht so richtig klappen:



Schwegel wasn't really successfull on his second attempt to fly his B25.

Acromaster mit Kameraflieger am Schlepptau!

Was passiert, wenn man einen kleinen Fox mit Flycamone ausgestattet, an einen Acromaster hängt? Nun - wir haben's ausprobiert (Schwegel ist geflogen) und das Ergebnis war recht lustig. Ausserdem hab ich Schwegels B25 getestet - zum Glück diesmal MIT Landung! Weiter unten hier im Blog sieht man den Erstflug!

Am Freitag gabs leider ein kleines Mißgeschick. Leider traf es den Üblichen Verdächtigen. Jetzt hat der Arme wieder einige Zeit seinen Baumlander-Ruf aufgefrischt. Wenn man durchzählt gibt's wohl kaum einen zweiten, der schon so oft seinen Flieger von einem Baum bergen musste. Hier gab's Glück im Unglück, das Fabbri-Rettungsteam war schnell zur Stelle und kam recht gut zum Flieger. Der Schaden am Flieger ist nicht so tragisch - das Ego des Piloten hat wohl den größeren Schaden von der Aktion getragen...



On friday unfortunately a little mishap occured. It was the usual suspect - now the poor man has revived his tree lander reputation. Going through the stats there's no one's with more tree landings. Here there's a blessing in disguise, Fabbri-rescue team was quickly on the spot and could get the plane in minutes. The damage to the aircraft is not so tragic - the ego of the pilot has probably taken greater harm on this crash...

New Toy in the Hangar! MultiWiiCopter

Da das FPV Fliegen für mich am besten funktioniert, wenn ich mit sogenannten Multicoptern unterwegs bin, hab ich weiter in diese Richtung investiert. Wobei der neue Zuwachs sehr günstig war! Melas, ein Freund aus UK, von dem ich bereits den Tricopter hab, hat mir einen kleinen "MultiWiiCopter" gebaut:

Die MultiWiiCopter sind eine Weiterentwicklung der einfachen Bauweise der Tricopter (diese entstanden auf RCGroups wo sich ein paar Bastler mit 3 einfachen Heli-Kreiseln die ersten Tricopter bauten). Beim MWC wird zur Stabilisierung Elektronik aus dem Controller der Nintendo Spielkonsole "Wii" verwendet. Diese sind recht günstig zu bekommen, sind aber sehr genau. Die Elektronik ließe sich auch für wesentlich größere Projekte verwenden, hier ist's halt ein sehr kleiner Quadro. Die Platine ist mit 160$ sehr günstig (vergleiche die Mikrokopter Preise!). Die Videoqualität ist leider noch relativ schlecht - der kleine Quadro muß noch getuned werden. Auch hier wird wieder die "Ohrstöpsel-Methode" zum Einsatz kommen, um die Vibrationen von der Elektronik fern zu halten.
Since flying FPV works best for me with so-called Multicopters, I've continued to invest in this direction. Melas, a friend from the UK, who already did the Tricopter for me now built this little "MultiWiiCopter".
The MultiWiiCopter have evolved from the simple design of the Tricopter (which originated on RCGroups where a few hobbyists built the first Tricopters using 3 simple gyros. MWC is stabilized with the electronics of the Nintendo game console "Wii". These are getting pretty cheap and they are very accurate. The electronics could be used also for much larger projects, here it is just a very small Quadro. The board is $ 160 which is very low compared to Mikrokopters!. The video quality is unfortunately still relatively poor - the small Quadro still needs to be tuned. Again, the "ear bud" method will be used to keep the vibrations from the electronics.

Tricopter FPV - The Road

Warum das Video "The Road" heißt? Naja, ich hatte schon lange vor, diese Forststraße entlang zu fliegen (am Ende eines Feldes, ziemlich lang, gerade und zu einem grünen Tunnel gewachsen...). Im Soundtrack heißts: "What I learnded from the road"... Ich hab gelernt, dass 250m unter solchen Bedingungen schon die Longrange Reichweitengrenze bedeuten können :-)
Why is the video named "The Road"? Well I always wanted to fly along this forest road (at the end of a field, rather long, straight and has grown into a green tunnel ...). The soundtrack is called "What I learnded from the road" ... I've learned that under such conditions even 250m can take away the "long" from long range :-)

1. Gloggnitzer Auflieger "Sturmfliegen" - Sepp Schmirl's Helis inkl. Crash

Letzten Samstag war unser erstes "Sturmfliegen" - und die Veranstaltung war nicht zuletzt wegen unseres "Stargastes" Sepp Schmirl ein voller Erfolg. Danke an Franz, Markus, Schwegel und alle anderen Helfer!

Sepp's Helis waren spektakulär - leider war auch ein Crash dabei - aber er hat die Notlage toll gemeistert - die Nerven muß man mal haben! Ausserdem sieht man einen deutlichen Unterschied im Cobra-Flugstil dieses Videos und des älteren aus 2009 (Link <- hier gibts auch noch alle Details zur Cobra!)

Sepp Schmirl was our special guest on the first "Sturmfliegen" on 1.10.2011 from the Gloggnitzer Auflieger group. This is the second video I did of his Cobra - and you can see that he learned much since the first vid in 2009! The crash was sad to watch - but he managed the emergency very well!

Tricopter FPV Roadtrip 3 - Stuppach,Eichberg,Silbersberg & erste TriCrashes

Der erste Teil des Videos enstand im Juli (in meinem Urlaub), der Zweite jetzt im August. Da es ähnliches Material ist und weil hier mal ein paar Crashes dazu kamen hab ich's zusammengeschnitten.
Mir gefällts wie der Tri gleich wieder auf seine "Füße" hüpft nach einem Crash. Ich hoffe aber, dass ich die Ursache für die Steuerungsausfälle jetzt gefunden hab, und dieses "Stehaufmanderl"-Feature nicht mehr testen muss!
(ein unnötiger zweiter Stecker konnte einen Kurzschluss verursachen - hab ich jetzt abgeklemmt und schön abisoliert).

The first part of the vid was shot on vacation 7/11, the bonus feature is from 8/11 and had similar content (and unfortuantely the first two crashes of my tri. I love it how he instantly gets back on his feet after a crash :-)
Luckily enough no damage was taken on this two mishaps. And I hope I found the real cause: a connector from my LRS system could produce a short and some trouble.
