Runcam Split HD Review

Contents of my review (use chapters!): Installation (not so easy), Latency (high) choppy live video quality, 2.7k video quality samples (with trick for optimal quality) Weight: 20gr (-10gr for other DJI cam, +5gr for 5vBEC) = 15gr Live-feed: - high latency (62ms avg) - choppy since 11% of the frames are dropped (and doubled) Power: had to install a BEC (my FC was too small) Box-contents: ND16 Filter! screws, cables

How to get CINEMATIC motionblur (and save precious YT bitrate)

There are a few ways, how we can achieve nice and smooth FPV footage. 4k60fps + stabilization is already butter-smooth out of the box. Problem tho: 60fps footage needs more bitrate than we get from youtube (at least in 1080p) so if you have a lot of moving objects it all degrades into a pixelated mess... (whilst looking nice and crisp before uploading it).
If the fast moving stuff is blurred - it "costs" less bitrate - so we have more bandwidth for the important objects that we want to see crisp! That's why we dial down to 30fps and make each frame a little unsharp. Now we get a smooth look still with good details - aka cinematic look. (and don't get me started on 24fps mistakenly used as cinematic look by many - it just looks jerky if you don't use big camera cranes, dollies or tripods) In my review of the Freewellgear ND Filters for the DJI Action 2 I also show you a bit about how to use them correctly and what to consider. Basically: set ISO to fixed 100-200 and exposure to auto! BUT: choose the right ND filter (lower number = brigther) Most flights I can use ND 8 or ND 16 and will be fine. Rarely needed ND32 or even 64 - gotta be very bright and sunny conditions to need those! Since this will be my last video before Xmas - merry Christmas to you all! Seasons Greetings, Mario

Danke an alle Beteiligten!
26.Oct 2021 a huge forrest fire (for our scale) was started. It seems thru an abandoned campfire - but also because the forrest was very dry due to long periods of no rain.
Now it's over a week and each day 500 or more firefighters and many helicopters and planes try to extinguish the fire! It's especially difficult due to the rough terrain (very steep!). In the next days rain is forecasted - so it should end soon! Despite the incredible damage to the woods (will take 20+ years to repair) it was a spectacular sight to see all those copters in the air and amazing to see so much people work together to achieve one goal! Great to see neighbouring countries (Italia, Slovakia and Germany) stepping in to help us. Forrest fires of that scale are seldom in Austria - that's why we don't have enough large helicopters or planes. Also it looks like the water-planes Italy sent are not optimal - large rivers or lakes to fill up the planes water tank are mostly too far away... Thanks to all involved, thank you for watching (and reading this description), greets, Mario ●▬▬▬LINKS▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬● Location: Hirschwang an der Rax https://goo.gl/maps/W9DQPRmf9CE8HTWW9 ●▬▬▬Credits▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬● Thanks @Hover82 (for plane fillup video from today!): https://www.youtube.com/user/hover82 Credits: Wiener Zeitung: https://youtu.be/yjIr_8aLYWI for parts of Mil Mi 171 and "TeamAigner" on Tiktok (thanks Hover for showing me this funny clip) ●▬▬▬EQUIPMENT▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬● Filmed with: Panasonic GH5, GX8, 100-400mm Lens, or 14-140mm (times 2) Edited on Premiere Pro

RCSchim - Back in the DIVE business ;)

Rekon6 finally got his first proper DIVE mission in one of the best locations for mountain dive videos I know so far. First I flew without the HD cam - so you see DVR footage for the first flight (we have to be remembered that this is live video - no glitches, great quality!) Then I managed to mount my universal mount for the InstaSMO4k on the Rekon6 and got ~10mins of extreme scenery by flying up there with a regular 6s Lipo (more stable in higher winds than LION 4cell).

DJI OSD Telemetry automated and free!

It's now WAYYYY easier to create OSD video that you can overlay over your main flight video! With some inspiration from RCRDPS I could fully AUTOMATE the process of creating the Video overlay! - My script converts the SRT files to a nicer layout first (as shown in my last vid) and then it creates a black video with OSD text as MP4! - Add this black video with the OSD telemetry as an additional layer and apply a "color key" effect (to substract the black and make it transparent). This way you don't encode the DJI Video twice (which reduces quality).
only 2 requirements: - download my script - download "FFMPEG.zip" and extract it in the same DIR as my script and the source videos! Quick howto: Run my script - it will run thru ALL *.SRT files in the folder, search the according DJI...MP4 video (has to have same name) and create the new formatted SRT as well as the DJI....OSD.mp4 files for you. In Premiere: insert main video insert DJI...OSD.mp4 (OSD video) above main video (new track) apply "color key" on that OSD video (choose black, color tolerance 200, edge thin -3) (optional) apply the superview effect from my last video on MAIN video. It's not yet a full "Dashware" replacement (check FAB FPVs tutorials on that matter) but it's very convenient and fast enough so we can easily use OSD overlay each time we want (even the very lazy ones amongst us :) 11/2021: Update - I've played around with the DJI FPV drone (which supports SRT files as well since a certain FW). SRT files of the DJI FPV Racer have a few more values (Alt, Distance, Speed...) which is nice of course! Check my link below to find the "SRT_Reformat(DJI FPV Goggles)+ffmpegOSD" Script! 3.5 or 5inch drone? How do they compare?

Since I flew the 3.5" class drones (mostly Smart35) a lot this year, I was asking myself, how do the 5" 6S copters compare. So I took my Emax HawkPro (which was extensivly flown last year as my main fun quad). I show you the pros and cons but mainly I looked for an excuse to sneak away for a few flights :)

Very enjoyable spot, perfect trees! (relaxed commented fpv)

When I take my motorbike to work (which is only 1.5km) I have to make a little detour. If I roam around there, I take a drone with me... you see where this leads (late at work but with a smile on my face! ;)

Very relaxing morning exploration flight!

A sub 250gr drone (GepRC Smart35) is allowed to fly almost everywhere! With this freedom I had a few really good flights on this morning (early summer), and since I used the instaSMO4k I got decent footage out of it:
I use 2.7k 30fps for 2 reasons: 1. my instaSMO4k shuts down mid-flight often when in 4k mode 2. youtube dedicates a good ammount of MBit for 1440p30 videos - and they are sufficient high res imho 2.7k60fps would crop in too much (limitation of camera) 30fps in combination with an ND filter works really nice for cinematic stuff. 4:3 raw resolution is great for stabilization (which in my case works directly thru the insta360 studio premiere plugin). FAKE SUPERVIEW tips: Premiere Settings for 4:3 to 16:9 "fake superview": source video: scale of 50% Adjustment layer: Effect "transform 4:3": scale 143% Effect "Lens distortion removal - gopro - hero 4 session - 1080 superview" Curvature: -46 (play around with this)

Stable in high winds? Here's how... (Rekon6 PID tuning)

I was wondering if the Rekon6 could keep up with a chimera7 and how good it can fly in higher winds (despite the really low weight). Now matter how shakey it flies tho - HD cams (Hero7 or InstaSMO in my case) can stabilize it so good... Loved the sunlight and conditions on the "Cinematic Flight" don't miss this (it's starting at 6:35) Check out my link-section below for the RPM stuff if you're interested...

Longrange Cruiser - Rekon 6 (Review, analog to DJI conversion, Testflights, ND Filter,...)

I was curious if this copter would perform better than the iFlight Chimera5.
I still guess that the Chimera7 would be a better choice for the ultimate mountain surfing copter, but this one is actually quite good and will be my main quad from now on. Banggood supplied this copter for review, but I could only get the analog version and converted it to DJI immediatley. I chose the STOCK DJI cam on purpose - from my experience they are the least susceptible to jello. Had I chosen the POLAR - it would be really hard to get rid of jello! ...found three new spots in the amazing "Höllental"

A day off, good weather - roaming thru the "Höllental" (hell's valley) to find new spots. Also had the larger Chimera5 with me for longrange mountain flying - but ended up driving around, listening to "Happier than Ever" and eventually pause on random spots with the small Smart35 which is big in fun!
Here I have the NebulaPro on again, in 4:3 mode and applied a superview filter (I always try to include such details under "Equipment" below btw.

Ride&Fly S02E03: Longrange Dives with Chimera 5

If I got you started on "Drone Dives" - check my playlist - I've done quite a few in the last years. Early on I called it wingsuit style drone flying ;) Exactly from these 2 spots here I did seperate dives with a gopro if you need better quality video. But the new quads and DJI 50mbit mode make it so easy to fly longer - but I seldom want to carry the extra weight of a gopro... It's also 300-400$ less of a risk to fly just with the DJI cam :) ►Mountain DIVES

Runcam Mipi or Caddx Polar?

Mipi is definitly faster (in photography terms - fast shutterspeed, less motion blur) while Polar gives the overall nicer and smoother image! See the full review to decide which cam you like more! I'm not so sure if many users will like the Polar on RTF Freestyle quads tho (looks like new quads now rely on Polar/Mipi since they're the only option with stock :)
While filming this I could definitly feel the advantage of 120fps (DJI cam) for freestyle flying!
All flight scenes in the beginning were after sunset and they are in order of filming. So it was of course getting darker but I flew them back to back with little time delay. It's a difference like day and night ;) Yet they share a lot of common properties: 60fps HQ mode only, no cam options to be set (except with solder on joystick...) 16:9 only (but with wider FOV than DJI stock) Small, cheap, AVAILABLE - better than Nebula (except their Pro version).

how handy is a 3.5" Drone on vacation?

We took the conveniently small drone with us on this trip to the "Waldviertel" (wood district) which has a nice reservoir (first part), lot's of castles and ruins to explore and very nice wood trails. Make sure to stay tuned (aka SUBSCRIBE) to see the 2nd part (with more stone formations in the woods and impressive castles).

3.5" is my new freestyle favorite! GepRC Smart35 Review

GepRC directly sent me this drone for a review and after first flights it was clear to me that I would fly this much more than the usual few flights for a review. Since I didn't feel pressure I could collect enough flights to give you a serious compilation of different spots and thoroughly test this copter. With those small sub250 drones (but flying like a 5" freestyler) you have access to much more spots than with the usual 6S 5" beast which screams through the whole city ;)

O.R.T. Digieyes V2 - DJI FPV dualband Patch antennas

Eko from ORT sent me these antennas SPECIFICALLY created for the DJI FPV drone. Since the V2 goggles and the DJI FPV drone use Occusync3 and here two frequency bands (2.4GHz and 5.8GHz) you need to take care which antennas you use (if you want to move away from the stock stubbies). On V1 DJI we could just use any 5.8GHz antennas (from analog times). One reason to move to such directional aftermarket antennas would be the very limited poweroutput in CE mode. Skip to my conclusion to see the results of my 5 testflights - or get some popcorn and enjoy the show ;)

Scenic Mountain mission (Schneeberg & Chimera5)

After a little hike (on purpose ;) I flew one pack there. Was quite exciting even if I know now that my gear is pretty trusty. Been there in the past, but never had a proper copter to go up all the way. Spent quite some time searching for a nice way to use both: DJI Srt (bitrate) and Tango2 Telemetry Logs for the overlay. • RBW (bandwidth - how accurate do I look at RF?) lower is better (more accurate) but slower sweep
  • VBW (video filter - low (100khz) filters MUCH, FULL settings means highest detail!) higher is better (less smoothing) but you see more noise (set to low if you only wanna see powerfull signals clean)

Ride&Fly S02E02: Prigglitz, Gasteil and Bürg

This time some proper ride shots (about 50%) as well to suite the theme. Pretty happy with the results (and possibilities) of the 360 cam on the bike. Also nice that I could directly edit the 360 footage in premiere! Also really happy about the range and image quality of the DJI system on the Chimera5 here. Still not sure if I need a naked gopro or another lightweight cam for HD footage - since the maximum flighttime and ease of use are my main focus for these videos (there are enough overproduced cinematic videos online already :) Thanks for riding along, greets, Mario

iFlight Chimera5 - NOT a typical 5" drone!

Let's have a closer look on the Chimera5 and see why it's not a typical 5" drone and join me on 4 flight sessions. Spoiler: loved this copter from the start and didn't find any downsides (normally I'm not so positive when reviewing stuff :)
iFlight Chimera5: https://bit.ly/3tGvMDV (product supplied by vendor for review!)

Weight: 278gr (dry, with Gopro "fingers" but not the mount) (that's really lightweight - compared to ~450gr of typical 5" drones)

Ride&Fly S02E01: Rocks, Trains and Mountains (Rax, Kreutzberg)

Had a day off and finally could take out the bike for a scenic ride. 3 stops, Dji drone worked really nice here!

DJI FPV: ND Filters vs Jello

While this drone doesn't satisfy everybody (especially since it has been overhyped) it's still a pretty good fast flying action cam. Only if you fly slow, or in certain extreme situations you get ugly vibrations that cause wobbly, jello issue in your footage.
Freewellgear NDFilters (they sent me the filters for free)

If you compare DVR (unstabilized) footage vs. Rocksteady stabilized footage from the drone - you see how good the stabilization works - but it's not a magic tool that eliminates all the shakes (like Gopro hypersmooth?). So if we help a bit by reducing the ammount of light on the sensor, the shuttertimes can be longer (1/120 is my suggestion). BUT: you shouldn't stay on AUTO exposure, because the cam tries to increase ISO to get enough light. Well maybe you can stay on auto if you chose the right ND filter for your current daylight situation. You can see this in the camera settings, it actually tells you the EV (exposure value) in manual mode. EV should be 0 or maybe -0.3 while ISO is on 100 (you see in my video that I had to use the ND8). Hope this helps you capture even better footage with this drone, happy flying (and filming), Mario

FMS Ranger 1800 (Cessna 172) - underrated! forgotten? Awesome!

Instead of yet another drone. here I chose a Plane from Banggood (they supplied this review sample). Very appealing for me: almost all is finished out of the box, you just have to complete it in a few easy steps (shown in the video). Big plane with very easy-to-fly handling but also well capable of some mild acrobatics! Just looks good in the air!
PRODUCT Link: https://ban.ggood.vip/Y5Kp (code: BGRangerCZ, 10%off)

●▬▬▬Features/Findings▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬● ►REFLEX stabilization: Easy to setup (3pos switch). Would fly in "optimised mode" (this holds the angle of the plane against wind/gust but will not auto-level when you let go the sticks. Auto level is too much imho - not needed - only maybe if you learn to fly? ►FLAPS: powerfull! mix in some down elevator! (from 10mm up and down in low rates, I'd use 3-4mm downtrim!) use a bit more throttle with flaps fully deployed - else it will stall or fly backwards ;) Good for taking the speed out on steep landing approaches - but not as easy to handle as I thought (but maybe that's just lack of LOS flying training on my side). ►LANDING GEAR: great! Big enough for our green field, dampened NOSEgear for sub-optimal landings (you should "flare" the plane and set it on the main wheels first and then lower the throttle to set the nosegear gently down. NOSEGEAR: really needs some threadlock ;) Also it can take a lot of impact on hard landings - but the spring will send you back in the air ;) ►Lights! (my first plane with scale like LEDs installed (even a front landing light, and red/green blinky lights on wingtips). ►FLIGHTTIME with 5200mah 4S (10c multistar pack, 433gr 6yrs old packs!). ~7.5mins and 60% left in pack - so easy 10mins or more (will also try a 7000mah ZOHD liIon pack for ~20mins?) ►TRANSPORT: quite a large plane, wings are installed quite easy and quick with the 4 screws and R-clips on struts. Elevator/Rudder could also be uninstalled for transport - but then it gets to be a bit cumbersome...

VAS Cyclops V2 vs Helicals vs iFlight Chrystal (Hexplorer)

ad a very nice early spring evening (finally longer days!) and first a great longrange flight, then enough batteries to test some DJI antennas for you. See how the VAS CYCLOPS V2 perform against iFlight ChrystalHD and Henriks Deathray Helicals... If you don't like this "realworld" testing approach, skip it and wait for the next test (which will be the stationary 2.3km distance test again.

Worst LIVESTREAM in the history of youtube...

This is the re-edited SHORTENED version of the 2hrs stream. Wanted to make it more watchable. Bruce Simpson was nice enough to join me. I wanted to do a live-giveaway and in the first 30mins we had terrible internet because of a snowstorm. The remaining time was really funny and enjoyable conversation of a few random FPV nerds - thanks to all of you!

Flywoo HEXPlorer - Review and many Testflights

I really enjoy flying this copter. The additional power costs you some flighttime - but gives you more stability and more options (carry a fullsize gopro, large batteries, more YAW stability...).
Martin: thanks for the Mavic shots - great job once again!
