DJI Osmo Nano: Better than DJI O4 footage?

 Is the DJI Osmo Nano worth adding to your drone? I compared it on my 5" drone to DJI O3 footage and on my cinematic 7" cruiser to the DJI O4 (with ND filter). I show you how to use Gyroflow and whilst testing I found a few surprises.

The Nano delivers noticeably better dynamic range and more filming options than DJI O3. It also delivers good battery life (considering the size) and lightning-fast file transfers!

BUT BE WARNED: The Nano is more prone to "jello" and its in-cam stabilization can struggle with drone vibrations, potentially ruining shots. Get ND Filters for the DJI Nano, I'm sure my friends at FreewellGear already have some in their shop!

PRO TIP: To unlock its full potential, ALWAYS film with Stabilization OFF and in WIDE FOV! Then, use Gyroflow in post-production for butter-smooth, controlled stabilization that truly shines. It takes a little extra effort, but the cinematic results are worth it!

Who is it for? Pilots seeking cinematic, natural-looking footage who are comfortable with post-stabilization and ensuring a super-stable drone mount.

ARWing Pro one year later (Cammounts, INAV Setup, OSD...)

Speedbee sent me their F405 Wing FC  (happy they now have wing stuff, told 'em we need it!)

and since my ARWing pro only had a small, half working Matek FC (without a working OSD uart) I re-visted the ARWing. It's great now with a feature rich FC and current INAV version. 

With my other INAV planes I learned a lot over the last month - so here all comes together nice!

WALNUT Update: while the 1st flight with Walnut was promising (despite the gusty wind), on a hot day Walnut performed poor (the one with dual motor warbird). Many errors in the video file, gyro data way off and stopped recording after 15mins (on a 25mins flight).

So I will try 2.7k mode next (less heat?)

About stabilization (Gyroflow vs. Insta Studio) check this video: https://youtu.be/oo0w4HuxJeE?t=92 Gyrodata: - ThumbPro seems better than orig. Thumb (~30ms off) - Thumb(normal) is 230-260ms off and no matter the settings it always looks like it's NOT stabilized - Caddx Peanut (InstaGo2) is a charm to stabilize, more wideangle and it's 9-11ms off - looks very steady and smooth. While the low weight is a selling point (especially for the use on ultralight whoops) there's a general problem with lightweight cams: less (own) mass means the cam can be moved / affected easier by vibrations! It's a good idea to mount the lightweigh cam to a heavy, non vibrating mass (the flight battery for example!)

how I liked CADDX Peanut vs. DJI Action 2 (many sample flights!)

Bought the PEANUT late but now I couldn't resist the low price and my general curiosity for this concept. See for which applications the cam is perfect in this video. Also learn how Gyroflow (for the first time for me) worked better than instaStudio stabilization (settings below).

- Phone-App (Insta360): https://www.insta360.com/de/download/insta360-go2 enable blutooth, wifi - connect to activate the cam: just wait some time - then it will work (do you need to press the button on the cam in this stage as Bardwell suggested? I don't think so - it's rather a timing issue) - Battery limits rec time: 18:28 (VideoPro, 2880x2880, 30fps 15°C) ~ 10GB so the 28gb of internal storage should give us ~ 45mins until the memory is full. you can transfer files via USB with ~35mb/sec to your PC *Important things to setup: - rec Settings: VideoPro - 30fps (recommended if using the ND Filter) - ND Filters (recommended to get nice motionblur on the fast moving ground which leads to lower youtube bitrate consumption for unneccesary fast moving sharp objects) - increase rec time to 30mins - InstaStudio (free PC post processing stabilization): FPV Stabilization, Actionview (wider than "ultrawide") InstaStudio phone app: here you can also apply more filters, do a roll effect... INTERESTING: Gyroflow 1.01 looks much better than InstaStudio! (Lens correction, smoother stabilizer...) - using Gyroflow (1.01) for Caddx Peanut footage: I needed to use GF for one of my videos where one of the gyro axis was rotated by 90°. Settings that worked well: Lens profile: "Insta360 Go2 (use the vid directly from...)" Lowpassfilter: 50Hz FOV: 1,18 default, smoothing 0,379 No Zoom Rolling shutter correction (x) Lens correction effect: 60% (here you can adjust the ammount of distortion... How to get CINEMATIC motionblur (and save precious YT bitrate)

There are a few ways, how we can achieve nice and smooth FPV footage. 4k60fps + stabilization is already butter-smooth out of the box. Problem tho: 60fps footage needs more bitrate than we get from youtube (at least in 1080p) so if you have a lot of moving objects it all degrades into a pixelated mess... (whilst looking nice and crisp before uploading it).

If the fast moving stuff is blurred - it "costs" less bitrate - so we have more bandwidth for the important objects that we want to see crisp! That's why we dial down to 30fps and make each frame a little unsharp. Now we get a smooth look still with good details - aka cinematic look. (and don't get me started on 24fps mistakenly used as cinematic look by many - it just looks jerky if you don't use big camera cranes, dollies or tripods) In my review of the Freewellgear ND Filters for the DJI Action 2 I also show you a bit about how to use them correctly and what to consider. Basically: set ISO to fixed 100-200 and exposure to auto! BUT: choose the right ND filter (lower number = brigther) Most flights I can use ND 8 or ND 16 and will be fine. Rarely needed ND32 or even 64 - gotta be very bright and sunny conditions to need those! Since this will be my last video before Xmas - merry Christmas to you all! Seasons Greetings, Mario
