Bei meiner Suche nach einer gscheiten FPV Plattform kam ich zu Mike Evans tollen Fliegern.
Er hat brav seine Pläne und viele Details zum Bau in die RCGroups-Foren gestellt. Für die Faulen gibts die Bauteile auch teilweise vorgefertigt.

Ich hab dem Flieger den Beinamen "Tucan" gegeben - warum wohl?

Mein setup:
MOTOR: AXI 2820/14
REGLER: MULTICONT BL-40 S-BEC MULTIPLEX
SERVOS: 2x Hitec HS55
Prop: APC 11X10 (first I used 11x4.7 but that was to slow)
RX: ACT DSL8
TX: FUTABA FF10
Gesamtgewicht: 2200g (mit 3200er 3zeller und 150g Ballast)
Schwerpunkt: 13,2cm von der Vorderkante des Flügels
Stallspeed ist ca 24-28km/h!!! - und man kann dieses Ding wirklich sehr langsam landen!
After my search for the best FPV platform I came to Mike Evans great designed Beasts, Crawlers and the "Solution".
He is so kind to put up full plans of his planes and there is a great forum where many builders discuss the plane (I got nearly all my info there)
My setup/used components:
MOTOR: AXI 2820/14

All up weight: 2088g (with 3200mah battery and 150g dead ballast to obtain CG)

my stall speed should be at 24km/h!!!

Habu und Twinstar
Franz hat hier eindeutig bewiesen, dass die Habu recht verträglich im Handling ist und dennoch eindrucksvoll schnell unterwegs sein kann. Der Handstart (auch wenn ich ihn fast verpatzt hätte) ist einfach und auch die Bauchlandungen im Schnee (und später dann auf der Wiese) sind kein Problem.
Franz showed clearly that the HABU has a great handling and at the same time can be flown quite speedy, great looking in the air! Handstarting it is easy (altough I nearly made a faulty one here) and landings on snow are a charm.
Das Gewicht und der zusätzliche Luftwiderstand (hallo Luftbremse!) meiner neuen GoPro-Halterung funktionierte wohl nicht so toll. Die TS2 hob nur schwerfällig ab und flog dann auch so. Deshalb hab ich nach einer kurzen Runde schon wieder versucht in meiner Nähe zu landen.

The weight and additional drag (hello airbreaks) from my GoPro mount here didn't work that well. The TS2 hardly took of and once airborne it flew quite slow and was harder to control - so I turend in for a landing soon enough not the crash this old bird :-)

Tucan Optik-Tuning, aktuelle Ausrüstung auf meinem Foto/Videoflieger
Neben der besseren Sichtbarkeit, wurde auch der Unilog Speedsensor besser montiert. Ausserdem ist hier nochmal genauer zu sehen, wie die GoPro (unten im Plastik Gehäuse) und die Lumix gleichzeitig transportiert werden.
Besides the optical tuning I improved the mounting of the unilog speed sensor. Also you can see better details about how I transport both the GoPro (plastic housing) and the lumix at the same time.

Blizzard's Optik-Tuning
Nachdem beim Erstflug schnell klar wurde, dass man diesen kleinen Hotliner bereits in kürzester Zeit an die Sichtgrenze gesteuert hat, hab ich nun mit den tollen Tapes der Küstenfliegerdie Erkennbarkeit verbessert:

Tucan - Eichberg im Winter (GoPro HD + Lumix Digicam + Unilog)
Bei diesem Flug hatte ich 2 Cams an bord! Die Lumix im Dauerfeuer Foto-Modus und meine neue GoPro Hero HD in 720px30 Video-Modus. Beiden haben toll funktioniert und mittels Unilog hab ich erstmals auch hier genaue Flugdetails:
Maximale Höhe: 230m
Max Speed: 38km/h
~27amp bei Vollgas und 5-7amp bei Reisegeschwindigkeit
Temp: -4° beim Starten und -11 nach 2 Minuten Flug

FPV Antenna 101
Hier hat sich Andy Lawson viel mühe gegeben, die verschiedenen Video-Empfangsantennen Setups zu vergleichen. Das Video ist etwas zu ausführlich und in Englisch, aber ich hab noch nirgends den Unterschied der einzelnen Antennen und Polarisationen so gut erklärt gesehen!
Any Lawson did a great job here on explaining the different aspects of video antennas for FPV use. The vid is a bit long but I've never seen this complicated matter explained better. I finally understood how the different polarisations effect the signal strength.

RCSchim presents: FPV Crash - Plane found by Kids
Das FPV Video hebt sich mal wirklich von der Masse ab! Wenn's nicht gestellt ist, find ich es wirklich genial. Die Dialoge der Kids haben mir gefallen :-)

(T)Win(ter)star
Um die finstere Winterzeit, in der man nicht allzu viele Flugstunden zusammenbringt, zu überbrücken, hab ich geeignete Handschuhe besorgt und mir die Finger vorher im Auto ordentlich gewärmt :-)
Die Twinstar ist hier nach langem wiedereinmal geflogen worden. Funktioniert noch immer alles, vor allem die Flaps verstärken die Langsamflug-Eigenschaften noch.
Das Landen mit der TS auf Schnee macht einfach nur Spaß!
To have some flying fun in the wintertime I put on gloves (with pre-heated fingers) and flew the Twinstar since long time again. She still flies great, above all the flaps are the greatest optional component on this bird. Makes her slow-flyer capeabilities even stronger.
Belly-Landings on the snow are simply great!

Mythbusters & FPV
Zuletzt hab ich eine recht vertraute Ausrüstung bei den Mythbusters gesehen:
Grant Imahara (einer der MB - der baute früher ferngesteuerte Kampfroboter) hat hier vor einen Wagen per FPV Cam zu steuern - was ihm aber wegen zu geringer Reichweite seiner FPV Cam anfangs nicht gelingt...
Recently I saw this episode of the Mythbusters and was amused by Grant Imaharas tries to steer an car in the desert via very familiar looking FPV equipment - but he ran into range issues...
