●▬▬▬Features/Findings▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬●
►REFLEX stabilization:
Easy to setup (3pos switch). Would fly in "optimised mode" (this holds the angle of the plane against wind/gust but will not auto-level when you let go the sticks. Auto level is too much imho - not needed - only maybe if you learn to fly?
►FLAPS: powerfull!
mix in some down elevator! (from 10mm up and down in low rates, I'd use 3-4mm downtrim!)
use a bit more throttle with flaps fully deployed - else it will stall or fly backwards ;)
Good for taking the speed out on steep landing approaches - but not as easy to handle as I thought (but maybe that's just lack of LOS flying training on my side).
►LANDING GEAR: great!
Big enough for our green field, dampened NOSEgear for sub-optimal landings (you should "flare" the plane and set it on the main wheels first and then lower the throttle to set the nosegear gently down.
NOSEGEAR: really needs some threadlock ;)
Also it can take a lot of impact on hard landings - but the spring will send you back in the air ;)
►Lights! (my first plane with scale like LEDs installed (even a front landing light, and red/green blinky lights on wingtips).
►FLIGHTTIME with 5200mah 4S (10c multistar pack, 433gr 6yrs old packs!). ~7.5mins and 60% left in pack - so easy 10mins or more (will also try a 7000mah ZOHD liIon pack for ~20mins?)
►TRANSPORT: quite a large plane, wings are installed quite easy and quick with the 4 screws and R-clips on struts. Elevator/Rudder could also be uninstalled for transport - but then it gets to be a bit cumbersome...

FMS Ranger 1800 (Cessna 172) - underrated! forgotten? Awesome!
Instead of yet another drone. here I chose a Plane from Banggood (they supplied this review sample). Very appealing for me: almost all is finished out of the box, you just have to complete it in a few easy steps (shown in the video). Big plane with very easy-to-fly handling but also well capable of some mild acrobatics! Just looks good in the air!

Surprising results! DJI Goggles Antenna tested 2.3km away (stationary!)
1st Test up there: https://youtu.be/RQML-azG4bQ
Last week I did a practical flying test with the same antennas: https://youtu.be/8TYY1-3Lo_c
These are the DJI goggles V2 antennas: https://youtu.be/FsKhaigxpJs
I also tested the ORT Digieyes (which are quite similar to the ChrystalHDs): https://youtu.be/PvSZYhobc24

VAS Cyclops V2 vs Helicals vs iFlight Chrystal (Hexplorer)
ad a very nice early spring evening (finally longer days!) and first a great longrange flight, then enough batteries to test some DJI antennas for you. See how the VAS CYCLOPS V2 perform against iFlight ChrystalHD and Henriks Deathray Helicals...
If you don't like this "realworld" testing approach, skip it and wait for the next test (which will be the stationary 2.3km distance test again.

Worst LIVESTREAM in the history of youtube...
This is the re-edited SHORTENED version of the 2hrs stream. Wanted to make it more watchable. Bruce Simpson was nice enough to join me. I wanted to do a live-giveaway and in the first 30mins we had terrible internet because of a snowstorm. The remaining time was really funny and enjoyable conversation of a few random FPV nerds - thanks to all of you!

Flywoo HEXPlorer - Review and many Testflights
I really enjoy flying this copter. The additional power costs you some flighttime - but gives you more stability and more options (carry a fullsize gopro, large batteries, more YAW stability...).
Martin: thanks for the Mavic shots - great job once again!

Insta360 SMO 4k Review (compared to Gopro7, Flightfootage
For this review I took my classic approach: compare the new cam to a good known reference (Gopro7) - first in various scenes with low movement (better picture quality even with low youtube bitrate).
Overall I was stunned by the imagequality, very sharp, good dynamic contrast
Not good:
- light changes are in steps sometimes (but light handling isn't that bad)
- reliability: on 4 flights I had 2 shutdowns - don't know the cause yet - but I have a friend with similar issue
- Jello: even with ND16 I had some nasty wobbles in sunny conditions (might be the fault of my worn folding props on the sector?)
Those of you who already have the SMO: do you have the "shutdown" issue as well? How do you power the cam (I use the balance plug as shown).
If you buy this cam, please consider banggood. I don't earn affiliate money but they keep sending me stuff - so it should be a win win ;)

Resolution comparison in Excel (PDF) http://bit.ly/2NEtwOx
►Sector5 flight:
this is your typical insta cam on a drone (here my first try actually).
of course the insta is heavier and larger than a gopro7,
stabilization is great, possibilities are awesome with 360!
but this wears off faster than you think and I ended up with just 2 flights
on my drone in 3 months.
►Jet Chase:
The next day I was eager to chase my friends on the field.
Normally I try hard to have the object I wanna chase in the center of my
DJI cam - so the gopro would also record it.
With the 360 cam you dont have to care about aiming the shot - because you
can turn the sphere in post production and look almost anywhere.
You just have to bring your copter close enough to the aciton.
And here's the downside of the insta: if I'm not REALLY close, I have to zoom in
quite a bit, else the JET is just a DOT.
Zoomed in this quickly degrades to 720p or lower of resolution...
►Hiking:
Another use for this cam, no drone used - just a longer selfie stick in your backpack
and you get a funny looking 3rd person view - which you can - again - look around freely
in post production.
This is especially fun when you dont have to much time for framing the shot while
in the action. Also the 360 on a longer stick makes for nice scenes if you're high up
and dont have a drone. attention - dont watch this if you have vertigo :)
►Gopro7 vs Insta4k Module:
Since they basically give you the "normal" 4k cam module for free - you will buy it.
The modularity is part of the appeal, right?
But even tho the insta is really sharp (do we want maximum sharpness?)
the Gopros video was much more pleasing to watch!
Gopro just deals so much better with the jello vibrations from my copter...
